Restaurant review

Hi! I went to A to Z cafe with Mikoto.  It is located Omotesando and near from AGU.

It was the first time for me to went there so when I heard about this restaurant, I was surprised that the menu of lunch seemed Japanese food though the name was including 'cafe'. But the restaurant also offers cakes for lunch time and alcohol like cocktails in the evening.

A to Z cafe is on the fifth floor in this building.

The interior of this restaurant was great. The wall was white, the floor was dark brown and many paintings were hanged on the wall. Since the interior modeled after a cottage, chair, table and so on were based on wood so I was relaxed.

As we entered the place, a waitress welcomed us and allowed us to sit wherever we liked, and then we were offered a glass of water. There were two choice of main dish of set meals at the menu, meat or fish, because it's lunch time(11:30~16:00) so I chose fish. After within 5 minutes from we ordered, the dish was served.

This was exactly Japanese food!!!
It was so delicious!!
It included rice(blended with five cereals), deep-fried marlin marinated in a spicy sauce(kaziki no nambanzuke), sliced raw salmon(sashimi), chopped burdock root and carrot cooked in soy sauce and sugar(kimpiragobo), misosoup and pickles(sibazuke and something of daikon) and roasted tea.

Every dish I ate was so nice, but especially kimpiragobo and sashimi of salmon were superb. General kimpiragobo is based just soy sauce and sugar, I guess, but the kimpiragobo tasted plus mild and it was so good. The sashimi of salmon was spanking fresh enough to be smooth texture on the tongue so I was impressed. Furthermore, we could have more rice and misosoup for free! It cost 1080yen. I think it is reasonable price.

The lunch time meal looks healthy, but perhaps men doesn't feel it's enough calories so this restaurant might suit women than men. It is very comfortable place so you can come with pals or only yourself!

Food for all and Second Harvest Japan

What are some of the features that the groups have in common and how do they differ?

-Both Food for all and Second Harvest Japan support people. Food for all aim to support homeless or socially excluded people by doing voluntary activities so they can learn new skill. Second Harvest Japan has an idea that not thrrowing any food stuff away though we can eat so they bring such food to welfare facilities.

What interested you the most?

-I was surprised at the idea of helping homeless or socially excluded people's growing up and it is connected to food related activity which.

How would you be able to offer help to either organisation -- as a volunteer or supporter?

-Food for all
we can donate money, clothes, things they need for running the shop
Second Harvest Japan
we can donate money, food, time and so on

Which group seems to be more active? Why do you think so?

-Second harvest Japan seems to be more active because the site is more detailed and there are many way to join to support.

"Food and Feast in Tudor England"

Hi! Today, I'm going to write about Beer and Brewing.

In Tudor times, ale, beer were common drink for ordinary people. Water was very limited and it was not good to drink in respect of hygienic reason so they change it into brewing. Milk was drunk but it was precious resource, it was material of making cheese and butter so if they drunk, they id only a part of whey. Fruit juice existed, but not really on option for the Tudors because it was luxury and it could not be preserved so long time, if they wanted, they made cider or perry with fruits. Tea, coffee and chocolate wasn't there until 17c so they couldn't avoid drinking ale and beer.

England has a long history of beer and brewing!

"Food and Feast in Tudor England"

Hi, I'll write about Staffing and Provisioning the Kitchen.

Firstly, in Tudor times, grand households like Henry Ⅷ's household wanted to employ men kitchen staffs more than women, this is diffrent from the earlier time like Georgian or Victorian kitchen because in this era, it cost lower price to employ women than men so employing men was good status for them to show off others.  There was only one woman  in the kitchens who worked in the confectionery.  Women were employed to do the washing and as casual labour for tasks like weeding the garden.

Inside those grand household, there was hierarchy, but it seems that their position was not bad. The staffs worked at kitchen were provided two patterns of clothes and shoes and those stuffs were expensive at the time so it's good deal.  Also, even lower circle like scullion were given to the chance to enter those palace.

"Food and Feast in Tudor England"

Hi! Today, I'll talk about Kitchens and Kitchen Equipment in Tudor England.

Kitchens in this time were varied according to people's lifestyle and income as well as today. In kitchen, most needed things are fire and water.
First, there were people who didn't have their kitchen. The fuel for fires was expensive so people who didn't available used main room's fire to cook. So there was no separete kitchen at the bottom end of the scale. Fuel was used like furze, straw, turf or peat in general. Coal was most convenient fuel but it was often expensive, therefore Royal Household reserve the amount they were to use and they also reserved the share of their imeddiate family.

In Tudor period, taking some water to home was a heavy work for most people except for the wealthy. Water was carrying from well or near river, but there's a way to supply water from by using pipe. It's unusual way but many larger and more prosperous towns had had piped water.
